After all, the band's biggest successes arrived thanks to the alchemy the pair provided to a lineup already featuring a stellar singer-songwriter in Christine McVie. A band with a long and convoluted history, Fleetwood Mac was originally conceived as a heavy blues outfit in the tradition of John Mayall and the Bluesbreakers.

The songs that Fleetwood Mac performs on this album are more like early rock and roll music from the '50s to early '60s. True the album does start off with the Elmore James number 'Madison Blues' but the rest of the album contains some classic early rock and roll songs. Among them include 'Great Balls Of Fire', 'Tutti Frutti' and 'Keep A Knocking'. Fleetwood Mac 's debut LP was a highlight of the late-'60s British blues boom. Green 's always inspired playing, the capable (if erratic) songwriting, and the general panache of the band as a whole placed them leagues above the overcrowded field.
