My last post on this NG was back in May to say that my Honda MTX 125 and Pug
Speedfight 100 had been nicked. I followed up a coupla days later to say
that the MTX had been found, but was a wreck.
So here I am, 7 months later, trying to see if I can get it back
together....
I've put parts of it back together, just trying to get it started before I
start shelling out on it. The battery's been nicked, loads of wires have
been cut off, it's missing most of the plastics, all the lights, clocks etc.
I'm now trying to start it, but there's no life there at all.
1st Q: Should I be able to start it without a battery (it's obv. kick
start..!)? I know not all bikes need batteries, and the Haynes Book of Lies
talks about the battery being required for ancillaries but nothing else.
2nd Q: Do I need to connect any wires together to simulate the
(non-existent) ignition being in the 'on' position? All the wires bar 2
have been cut off short, leaving a black and a grey, but that doesn't
correlate to anything the Haynes book shows. Also the engine stop swich has
been removed, but I guess that this just means that it won't stop, not that
it won't go?
Apologies for my lack of knowledge, I've kinda been chucked in the deep end
here...!
Ta muchly.

Overview[edit]
Honda introduced a series of light motorcycles in the US and inEurope. Honda's production lines of these models were in Spain, Belgium andSweden.
Because of important law and insurance changes the sales inthese types of light motorcycles decreased enormously. As a result, productionin Spain and Belgium came to a standstill in 1992. MBX production lasted anotheryear and stopped in 1993. Only in Scandinavia a limited production for the localmarket lasted until 1997. After that Honda's M productions came to an end.
There were 50, 80, 125 variants of both the MBX and MTX as wellas a 200c version of the MTX - all two-stroke singles - and the related MVX250water-cooled two-stroke V3.
The MTX125/200R started life in 1983 as RFD models and wereungraded in 1985 into the RFF. Changes includes dropping the drum brake at thefront and replacing with a disc, bigger forks, revised graphics, a revised rearshock, revised CDI and, in the case of the 200, a new swingarm. The 125 ccmotorcycle come in both restricted and de-restricted form. The de-restrictedversion and the 200 cc version had ATAC chambers operated by a piston valveattached to a mechanical governor.
The stock MB8 uses a two-ring 45mm piston and 50.8mm stroke compared to the 41mm stroke of the MB5
